Family Reading NightDARLINGTON, S.C. – A crowd of students and their family members attended Brockington Elementary Magnet School’s (BEMS) inaugural Family Reading Night recently.

The evening consisted of a tour around the building to see the various reading projects on which students have been working, a viewing of the school’s 2016 Art in Business displays, and a special showing of “BEMS Read Across America Week 2016.” Parents also got the chance to complete surveys about the school in the computer lab.

“We had a splendid turnout and wonderful feedback from parents,” said Ashley Rogers, a fourth grade teacher at BEMS and the school’s 2015-16 Teacher of the Year. “It was a great way to show parents some creative examples of how hard our students work. It also gave parents a chance to have their voices heard in decisions being made in the school. We look forward to making this an annual event at Brockington Elementary Magnet School.”

Each student who attended Family Reading Night left with a “Reading Swag Bag,” Rogers said. The bags contained a book, bookmarks and information from the Darlington County Library System.
