Chassidy LeonardDARLINGTON, S.C. – Chassidy Leonard, winner of the Darlington County School District’s 2016 Holiday Card Art Contest, visited the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT) on Nov. 21 to see her winning artwork transformed into the school district’s holiday card. Leonard, a sixth grader at Hartsville Middle School, won the annual contest in October.

Leonard spent the morning with students in Gary Hayes’ Graphic Communications class. The students demonstrated how they digitally prepared the painting and the actual printing, all of which was done in-house. Leading up to the visit, the students prepared more than 2,500 cards for distribution. The class also presented Leonard with coffee mugs, buttons, posters and a shirt honoring her achievement.

In addition to having her art featured on the cover of the district’s holiday card, Leonard will receive a certificate, $50 and a packet of the holiday cards. Her art teacher, Michelle McCall, will receive $100 for art supplies for Hartsville Middle School. The Darlington County Board of Education will recognize Leonard during its December meeting.
