DCSD to host 2016 Magnet Fair on Sept. 22 at Hartsville Middle School
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Special agents from across Darlington County School District will participate in “Mission: Possible – Operation Innovation” on Sept. 22 during the district’s 2016 Magnet Fair at Hartsville Middle School.
The exciting event will kick off at 6 p.m. with an opening act by the Hartsville Middle School cheerleaders. Contributing schools will include Brockington Elementary Magnet School, Thornwell School for the Arts, Darlington Middle School, Hartsville Middle School, Darlington High School, Hartsville High School and Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology.
The Magnet Fair aims to stir up excitement and applications for the district’s magnet programs. New this year to the district’s magnet programs will be ACCELERATE SC’s Engineering LaunchPad and Pre-ACCELERATE BRIDGE Program. The programs will be open to rising ninth and tenth graders and will be housed at the Darlington County Institute of Technology. Students will apply for those programs using the online high school magnet application. Criteria for acceptance into the programs include successful completion of Algebra I in eighth grade, successful completion of Algebra II in ninth grade, current first semester grades, standardized test scores, and two positive teacher recommendations.
The event will feature gaming stations with Xbox and Wii systems, photo booths, face painting and food for sale. The district’s online magnet application will go live at the start of the fair.
