Rotary Club of Darlington donates hundreds of dictionaries to Darlington County School District
DARLINGTON, S.C. – The Rotary Club of Darlington donated nearly 500 dictionaries to the Darlington County School District (DCSD) recently, continuing the organization’s commitment to the district’s students.
Rotary Club donated the dictionaries to all third grade students of schools in the Lamar and Darlington areas, including Spaulding Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary/Middle, Brockington Elementary, St. John’s Elementary and Brunson-Dargan Elementary.
Byard Stone Jr., president of Rotary Club of Darlington, and Jean Taylor, principal of St. John’s Elementary School and Rotary member, attended the donation along with other principals and students.
Stone worked with the school district for 24 years before he retired and has been a Rotary member since 1980. The club has donated dictionaries to Darlington County School District for several years.
“Supporting education is one of our main goals as far a Rotary is concerned,” he said. “Language is extremely important, and we see this as a strong way to help kids develop language skills.”
The principals and students took the dictionaries back to their schools to distribute to the rest of the third grade students.
“We are always grateful of community involvement with the education of our students,” Superintendent Eddie Ingram said. “And we are especially thankful for the Rotary Club of Darlington continuing a great tradition of providing our young students with an important academic tool.”
