Darlington County School Food Services

Money Borrowing

Guidelines

Effective August, 2007

I.       No one may borrow funds from school food services to eat school breakfast.

II.       If a student needs to borrow money to eat a school lunch, we will lend the student up to but not more than $6.40 for a reimbursable school lunch meal.  The cost of a school lunch for a student is $1.60 per day at all elementary schools.  This would allow the student to borrow for 4 days.  If on the fifth day the student has no lunch money and has borrowed $6.40 from the cafeteria, the student will be served a peanut butter sandwich and a half pint of milk.  Their account will be billed $1.00.  The sandwich and milk will not be counted as a reimbursable meal.  All borrowed monies are expected to be repaid immediately.

III.     School food services will not extend middle or high school students borrowing privileges.

IV.      The school food services program does not extend faculty and staff at any school money borrowing privileges.  Faculty and staff are encouraged to place prepayments on their accounts.  Checks are also accepted in all cafeterias.  If, however, a faculty or staff member comes to the cafeteria for lunch and forgets to bring their lunch money, the bookkeeper can provide the adult with a temporary loan till the end of the meal service on that day.  All temporary loans to adults need to be repaid by the end of the school day.  Temporary loans to faculty and staff should not be for more than one day.

V.      Money may not be borrowed to purchase special sales or extra items during meal service time.
