COVID testing permission

In an effort to respond to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation, the Darlington County School District  (DCSD) has partnered with Public Consulting Group (PCG) to establish a  voluntary and free COVID-19 testing program for DCSD students, employees, or the families of either group.  In addition to testing, PCG will also assist our school nurses and administrators with contact tracing. The comprehensive DCSD testing and contact tracing program is the first of its kind in South Carolina and is the culmination of several weeks’ worth of effort.

The DCSD testing program has two goals: To confirm an illness in symptomatic individuals and to allow quarantined students and staff who are negative to return to school and work sooner. By doing both, DCSD hopes to better inform families, reduce cases in schools, and help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

Testing Requirements:

•  Testing is available for only DCSD students, staff, and their families who share their households
•  Advanced registration is required using the QR code below or by clicking HERE.
•  Anyone who wants to be tested must register. Students and family members must each register individually.
•  Parents will need the student's ID number to register to test students or the family members of students. The ID number can be found in ParentPortal, on a high school student's badge, or by calling your child's school.
•  The DCSD student or staff member must be present at the testing site for their family members (who share the household) to be tested.
•  Parents/guardians must be present for elementary and middle school students to be tested. High school students may be unaccompanied as long as the parents/guardians have completed the consent form ahead of time.
•  Adults must have a photo ID
•  Employees will need to bring their employee ID.
•  Test results will usually be emailed to family members within 48 hours.

Quarantined Students and Staff

Per DHEC guidelines, individuals who have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus but do not show symptoms by day 5 can take a PCR test. If the test is negative, the individual can return to school or work on the eighth day of their quarantine, shortening the quarantine and time away from school and work. PCG will offer the test for those staff or students who desire to be tested.  The service is free. Parents and guardians will be notified of the results within 24 hours.

Exposed Students With Symptoms

Students who are sent home from school because they are exhibiting symptoms of the virus will have the option to test immediately at one of PCG testing sites. Those that choose to participate will be provided a testing location. The service is free. Parents and guardians will be notified of the results within 24 hours.

In addition to the voluntary testing, PCG will assist the district with our close contact tracing and follow-up calls. Close contact tracing requires a tremendous amount of time and resources, and this assistance will help free up our nurses and staff to better care for our students.
