Four-Year-Old Development Program
The four-year-old child development program for the Darlington County School District is a district and state-funded program for children in Darlington County who will be four-years-old on or before September 1, 2015. In August 2013, Darlington County was awarded funds to initiate full-day Child Development Education Pilot Program (CDEPP) classrooms. Seven full-day, 4K classrooms were established across geographical areas of the county.
In June 2014, additional funds made it possible to add seven more full-day classrooms. These classrooms will replace half-day programs already in existence in Hartsville and Darlington. This funding resulted from the CDEPP project being integrated into the Read to Succeed Legislation that was signed into law by Governor, Nikki Haley on June 11, 2014.
Cain Elementary School, Pate Elementary School, St. Johns Elementary School, Lamar Elementary School, Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School, Southside Early Childhood Center, and Washington Street Elementary School now offer full-day CDEP classrooms. The acronym for this model has now been renamed Child Development Education Program, since the “Pilot” has ended.
DCSD will also offer early registration for five-year-old kindergarten. You will need the same documents to register: Medicaid Card (if available); Birth Certificate; Current Immunization Record; Social Security Card (if available); and Proof or Residence. The proof of residency must be utility bill, phone bill, or property tax receipt.
