A Parent’s Right ToKnow – NCLB Parental Notification
(Darlington)-- In January, 2002, President George W. Bush signed the “No Child Left Behind”Act (NCLB) into law. Designed to ensure that all children have an opportunity to obtain a quality education, this law is already bringing many changes to South Carolina’s schools.
Federal law allows parents to ask for certain information about their child’s classroom teachers and requires the schools to respond to this request in a timely manner. Parents of students in the Darlington County School District have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their child and of the teacher’s aides who assist that teacher.
To receive this information, parents should send a letter to their child’s principal requesting the NCLB teacher qualification information, complete the request form below and send it to the principal, or fill out a request form at the child’s school. Once the request is received, the information will be mailed to the parents within ten school days.
The Darlington CountySchool District serves approximately 10,500 students with 23 schools. The range of services extends from 3K special needs students to adults. It is the mission of the Darlington County School District to prepare all students to become competent, responsible, and productive individuals by providing challenging educational experiences in a positive, safe environment supported by the total community.
